In the Beginning

Ok.

I have seen a few "diaries" online instructing foreign graduates on how to go about registering for NYSC in Nigeria.  I must say, those blogs have truly helped me and given me 10% preparation on this on-coming task.  Yes...I refer to it as a task as it is not easy, having spent almost half my life abroad, I do not think it is an easy feat re-locating to Nigeria to live there for 1 year and complete NYSC.

I am use to all the comforts in life.  Don't get me wrong, I am not rich by any means and neither am I from a "rich" family but when you live in the West, basic things and comforts in life are just a given.  I know that basic amenities ARE NOT a given in Nigeria.  With the inconsistent light/NEPA, water, etc etc.  You know what I mean.

So having to leave all the "comforts" is very daunting and challenging but I have put it off long enough and don't intend to do it any longer.  Whilst I'm still single and "free", this is the best time to get it over and done with.

Oh...and by the way...If you are Nigerian (one of your citizenships if that is the case) and you want a chance of working in Nigeria at some point in the future (not business or for a "mummy/daddy" company or private company as they say) you must do you NYSC.
You are only exempt from it if you graduated from your 1st degree at the age of 30 or above.  A lot of people get confused by this.
If you are 30 or over now but gained your 1st degree before 30, my dear, you have to do it ooo.  Unless you obviously have a debilitating illness or something that will prevent you from actively participating.
I'm sure I can find a "doctor" to forge one certificate like that but that is not our portion ooo and I will not claim illness just to avoid NYSC joor.

So my diary starts today...Detailing my journey  and how I do at the end of it...
Feel free to share your experiences, thoughts and questions with me especially if you are in the same boat as me ...
:-)

Stay tuned...
